Walkabout Wednesdays - Dutch Albany Walking Tour

  • SUNY Admin Building Albany NY 12206 United States (map)

Please meet at the foot of State Street in Front of the Suny Admin Building

For the second walking tour of the 2024 season join us for a guided stroll through the Dutch downtown. Learn about the Dutch influences that have shaped Albany. In Albany’s nearly 400 years of existence, many architectural wonders have come and gone. Few remnants of its Dutch past
remain. Simple homes and businesses have often been replaced with government monuments or skyscrapers, obliterating any knowledge of a simpler and more tranquil setting. But fortunately, many illustrations and photographs of buildings of the past remain and it is here that a brief look into the city’s unique history can be accomplished. This walking tour in the heart of Albany’s downtown will give you a quick tour of the “City on the Pine Plains” from the earliest days of the 17th through 19th century. Some of the buildings featured are: Dutch Church, Albany Museum, State Bank, Market House and more.
