Meet at Hook & Ladder No. 4 located at 356 Delaware Ave, Albany.

Join city historian Tony Opalka and the firefighters of Hook & Ladder No. 4, Engine Co. No. 9, and Rescue No. 9 on Wednesday July 31 for a members only tour of "The Big House" at the corner of Delaware Ave and Marshall St. This Marcus T. Reynolds masterpiece was begun in 1910 and opened in 1912 to house Hook & Ladder No. 4 and Chemical Engine No. 11. It was built near the end of the era of horse-drawn apparatus and originally included stables and an "exercise wagon" to keep the horses limber between fires. The tour will highlight the history of the building and its companies and how it is used today. Copies of Reynolds' drawings will be on display.
