Lunch & Learn: The Life and Times of Henry Johnson

Masonic Lodge, 67 Corning Place - Lodge Street Entrance

How do you write the history of a man who left no written records? How do you tell the story of a hero our nation never wanted? And how do you separate the facts from fictions about a man of small stature whose impact was larger than life? On February 29, join American Historian (and Capitol Region native) Connor Williams as he discusses his experiences writing and researching William Henry Johnson. As Lead Historian for the Congressional Naming Commission, Connor was a main advocate for selecting Johnson as the new name for Fort Polk, LA. With Congressional endorsement and Department of Defense support, the installation was officially designated Fort Johnson on June 13, 2023. Beyond writing about Johnson in the Congressional Reports, Connor has also written a chapter on Johnson's life and story in his upcoming book A Promise Delivered: The Naming Commission, Nine Army Bases, and Ten True American Heroes, under contract with St. Martin's Press (a Macmillan imprint) and scheduled for release next winter.
