Celebrate the history, stories, and architecture of our city this May by joining us on our first #WalkaboutWednesday of the season.
About this event
Join Albany City Historian, Tony Opalka for a reprise of one of our most popular tours: A Trip to Ten Broeck Triangle.
A monument to a period of Albany’s economic success thanks to the completion of the Erie Canal, the ornate homes in the triangle vary from Federal to Greek Revival, Neoclassical to Gothic - it has it all. On top of that, it’s home to the famed Ten Broeck Mansion and gardens, and of course the neo-Gothic landmark that is St. Joseph’s Church.
During this 1hr 30-minute walking tour, relive this historic area's stories by foot, exploring not only the architectural highlights, but also the stories of the people who built, worked, and lived in this neighborhood and called it home.
Please note - this tour is capped at 12 people to ensure attendees safety. All attendees must wear masks at all times.
"Arbor Hill is rapidly improving. Its elevated position renders it one of the most delightful localities in the City. A great many fine residences have been built within a few months...and we shall expect it soon to become ..the most fashionable part of town." - Newspaper clipping from 1850
