Join City Historian Tony Opalka, Lt. Tim Blaney, Albany Fire Department, and Lt.
Bill Tobler, AFD (Ret.), on a walk through the “Burnt District” marking the 170th
Anniversary of Albany’s Great Fire of 1848.

The fire started at the Albion Hotel at
Herkimer and Broadway, stretched north to Hudson and Broadway on land and
destroyed nearly 600 buildings, as well as ships docked in the Albany Basin up to
Columbia Street; it was finally stopped by a change in the wind and a rain storm.

A reception with a display on AFD history will follow at 48 Hudson.
