Historic Albany's Largest Fundraiser of the Year Needs your Support!

Regrettably Historic Albany Foundation had to cancel A Moveable Feast that was to be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020 because of the growing concern of the COVID-19 virus. With respect to the current situation, we decided for one year only to invite our supporters to take part in 'A Stationary Feast'! On April the 4th over 80 hosts Feasted on four with us from the afety of their own homes! We also had an online auction encouraged people to post their photos enjoying themselves (see below)

What is A Stationary Feast?
For A Moveable Feast we’d invite people to dine at private historic homes in the city of Albany. You wouldn't know where you would dine, or who with until that evening. Unfortunately as that wasn’t an option for 2020 we encouraged all Albany residents and beyond to have their own household Feast celebration! Whether that meant getting dressed up and rustling up a fancy meal, getting take out, or just having some wine and cheese with their feet up and listening to the radio.

The message was simple:

What you do isn't important - what is important is knowing that even with the current isolation measures in place, we can still keep connected.

Above all during this time we want all of our members and supporters (or whoever!) to know they're not alone. The reason we work to preserve the architecture in our wonderful city is for the people who live in it and call it home -  let's all Feast on the 4th together.

We created a map with all family-feast households pinned and we invited people to send in their menus - our staff then designed an individual menu for each host (see here)

2020 A Moveable Feast Honoree - Michael Gilhooly!

This year Historic Albany is proud to honor a long time HAF member Michael Gilhooly. Michael has been very involved with Historic Albany Foundation for 25 years. A native Albanian, his day job is Principal Bank Examiner at the NYS Department of Financial Services. By night he is Michael Gilhooly: rehabber extraordinaire!

With his team from Albany Artisans, Michael has systematically restored six, soon to be seven, houses on Dove Street, taking them from vacant to vibrant and occupied. He has received HAF Preservation Merit Awards in 2004, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018. His full portfolio of projects includes houses on Washington Avenue, Madison Avenue, Lark Street, Bleecker Place, Myrtle Avenue, Dana Avenue and Philip Street. During the 1980's he was president of the Lark Street Restoration Group who rehabilitated 8 houses on Lark Street. In addition, Michael has graciously supported HAF by opening his home for us on many occasions hosting Moveable Feast dinners, House and Garden Tours and Holiday House Tour
